What "AI Governance" Actually Means

AI governance is the framework of policies, processes, and accountability structures that ensure AI systems are developed and deployed responsibly. In practical terms, it answers four questions:

  1. Where are we using AI?
  2. What data feeds those AI systems?
  3. Who is accountable for AI decisions?
  4. How do we monitor for bias, drift, and failure?

For each AI system: What data goes in? Where does it come from? What data comes out? Where does it go? Who can access it?

5. Monitor and Review

AI systems drift over time. Regularly review outputs for bias, accuracy degradation, and unexpected behavior. Set up alerting for anomalous patterns.
